Versatile defender, primarily a centre back, who played for Stalybridge Celtic before joining Oldham Athletic as a trainee. Had a short loan spell as a young player at Scarborough before eventually moving to Shrewsbury Town. Moved North to Gretna in January 2008 but was a victim of their winding up. Chesterfield stepped in to offer him a year's deal and that was extended after a fine second half to last season.
