Colin you have just joined Chesterfield from Manchester United. how's that come about?

HeathAt the start of the season I heard Chesterfield were interested in me and was going to come here with Phil. That did not work out and I went to Swindon on loan instead. At Christmas Roy McFarland invited me to come and train here and then he's now offered me a deal until the end of the season. So I am delighted to come back home to my family and I can play locally and hopefully I will get in the team.

So Manchester United had indicated that they were going to release you then?

Yes they had indicated that they would let me go if I could find a club and thankfully I have found somewhere close to home.

How long were you with Manchester United?

I was there for eight years and it's not really sunk in yet, I also had a couple of years at Leeds United before going to Manchester United, the team I supported. But things move on and I am just happy to have spent that time there. But footballs changing and the days of throwing youngsters in at the top clubs seems to have gone and now they prefer to buy players to try and catch up on Chelsea.

So tell us about your time at Manchester United, you did score a lot of goals at various levels

I did score a lot of goals at U17, 18 and 19's and at Antwerp I scored goals but when I came back to United  they moved me out onto the wing which stopped me playing up front and scoring goals. But when I was younger I did score a lot of goals and hopefully I can do that again now I am here.

So you are a Chesterfield lad and born in the town

Yes I have played a lot of my football in the area in the Rowsley League. I was born in Chesterfield but I can't say I am a Chesterfield lad because that might upset some of the villagers but I know the area and my sister lives here and my family are pleased

So tell us about how you joined Leeds

I played for Darley Dale and I joined Leeds when I was eleven and stayed there until I was fourteen. Then I went to United for eight years and now I am here. Leeds was good to be fair then they stopped putting youngsters into the team so I missed out there and moved to United.

So what type of player would you describe yourself as?

I see myself as a striker and I will put myself about and I can be aggressive and a good finisher. I would probably say I am a bit of everything.

Have you played much lately?

No that's what's lacking really but I am grateful to Chesterfield for giving me this chance. These weeks been a bit awkward with sorting the deal out but hopefully next week I can get into full training and work as hard as I can and show the manager and staff and the fans that I want to play for Chesterfield. One of the things I learnt at United was you do not only look in front of you at the players in the team but also those behind you who also want that place in the team. Football is a tough game and you have to be selfish at times and show you want that spot the most.

So a real opportunity to put yourself in the shop window

First and foremost I am now a Chesterfield player and I am looking to stay here and I can improve in a team that's going well. So at the moment I am focused on Chesterfield and anything else could only happen if Chesterfield do not offer me anything more.

Tell us about interests

I like sport really, I play a lot of golf and I watch a lot of sport I like rugby and watched a lot of the Ashes series. So it's a sports based life really

Music

I do go and watch a lot of live music and like R&B but I am getting into a group called Athlete. The Artic Monkeys are good but they are getting a bit too commercial now. I saw Cold Play last summer who are a good band obviously

Will you be moving in back home to your family home from Manchester?

That will be the plan initially but my girlfriend lives in Manchester so I will be popping over there a bit.

Rico welcomes Colin to Saltergate

Have you been or even played at Saltergate

When I was younger I was a bit of a fan and when we got to the Semi Final it was hard to get tickets then.

There are plenty of tickets now bring your mates

There might not be that many when all my family turn up

Really

It might.  There's a lot of people I went to school with support the team so I will probably be under more pressure playing here than I ever was at United

So what would you like to happen?

With the position the team is in at the moment, I hope to be involved in what I feel is a realistic target of promotion.
