New loan signing Brighton's Andy Whing only joined up with his new team mates an hour or so before the Spireites played at Cheltenham. Phil Tooley and Spireites Player caught up with him shortly after the game to get the low down on the Spireites new number 27.
Andy told Player" I am mainly a right back but can play anywhere along the back really. I like to get tackles in and defend first and it's a bonus if I can get forwarded. The deal was completed late yesterday (Friday) so I only met up with the lads and with just over an hour before kick off. I know Robert Page well and have played many a time with him at Coventry and he's a great pro. I then went down to Brighton with Mickey Adams, I played over 50 games last season and that won me the player of the year down there. We were struggling with relegation, this season I've had an operation on my hernia but I'm 100% fit and I want to play some games. So I am grateful for the opportunity to help Chesterfield's run in to the end of the season. After that I still have another year to go on my contract at Brighton so I will have to see what happens at the end of the season."
Andy also revealed the highlight of his career so far was scoring the last goal at Highfield Road and course he's now got the opportunity to perhaps do a rare double of last league goals at grounds. Moving on, no interview with Andy would be complete without mention of the infamous Lasagne injury incident.
So Spireite Player offered Andy the opportunity to put his side of that particular story and Andy told Player "I didn't get injured actually eating Lasagne. I took a knock in training right before lunch and straight afterwards I reported it the physio. Mickey Adams obviously wasn't best pleased and he came out with the quote. I can't remember what I actually did have for lunch that day but I doubt it was lasagne as I don't really like it."
