In his first full interview since being appointed captain he said: "Being captain is not just about leading the team out, it's also through the week on the training pitch and being the manager's voice as well.

"I have been fortunate throughout my career to have been given the arm band and it's a challenge I am looking forward to.

"There is no greater pleasure on a Saturday than leading the boys out and getting a win and enjoying the buzz that you get from the supporters, there is nothing else like it.  I also enjoy the responsibility that goes alongside all of that.

"It's a privilege and a challenge that I am looking forward to again."

In an exclusive interview Spireites World subscribers were able to see Rob getting stuck into pre-season training.as he went on to describe the quality of the routines.

"Shinner has been different class in the way he's building things up.  It's been hard and demanding but it's been sensible as well with enough recovery time for the afternoon sessions.

Rob says he is really looking forward to the new season after the way the manager sold him the club.

"There's a bit of excitement around the place with the new stadium gaining planning permission and if we can get promoted that should give the place a real buzz.

"But we won't achieve anything without hard work, which starts on a Monday on the training pitch and continues into the build-up for the game on a Saturday.

The new captain is setting some high standards and expects to lead by example.

"We have to be ruthless this season and have to go into games with the mentality that we will win every game.

"If we do that we will be promoted and that's the aim and we simply cannot accept anything other than promotion this season.

He concluded by looking forward to the start of the season.  "We are all looking forward to the first league game at Barnet and we are working hard towards that game and then we will take it one game at a time.

"It will be a strong league and we have to improve on last season and make sure we are competing for one of the top spots." he said.
