On his decision to leave

It's been a very tough decision and also a difficult year for me on a personal front. I was at one club for fifteen years and I have settled in here at Chesterfield very quickly and I love the place, I love the club and I love the supporters who have taken me to their hearts and I appreciate what everyone here at Chesterfield have done for me.

So it's been a very difficult decision to come to. I have spoken to my family, and my mum and dad, but the main thing is that two hundred and fifteen miles is along way to come and leave my wife with my two daughters Danni and Emily. If Chesterfield could relocate like Mk Don's did and move a hundred miles further south it wouldn't be decision that needed to be made because I am happy here.

What's surprised me is how difficult it's been to decide. Last year I had didn't have a contract offer from Bournemouth on the table so this time it's me turning down the contract. Whether that is the right decision I don't know, but my personnel reasons out weigh anything else and I just want to be closer to my family.

It's not rocket science that I may only have one or two seasons left of my playing career and I hope that I have done something to help Chesterfield progress. I have started and been involved in far more games than I first thought then signed here last summer. I love the manager Lee Richardson's he's been a breath of fresh air for me, and the supporters and staff at the football club I just want to say a big thank you to everyone. I didn't think after one year that I would have so many friends here and I am devastated really but its just one of those things I have to get closer to my family.

On his guns

I have got no skill, no pace, and the guns are all I have left in the locker is a physical presence. I have never had that song before anywhere and it's brought a big smile to my face when ever I heard it and I have played along with it. So I just want to say a big thank you again to the players and  the supporters because it's been a pleasure to be here.

On Lee Richardson

Unless you are a player it's difficult to explain. If you have a manager who wants you, and he also believes in you, and will do anything to help. I have spoken to Lee perhaps more than I have any other manager I have played under. Perhaps we have a lot of things in common because we are of a similar age so we have got on and that may have helped, but I have been away from home and he's always been there to talk too. I think he also respects my opinion and the criticism he's taken from some people is unfair because the critics will not understand, they'll never understand, what it's like behind the scenes and what he's dealing with. My biggest regret is that I will not be here and able to go into his office and to help him to get Chesterfield Football Club back into League One and into the new ground.

What next  for Steve Fletcher?

There are not that many options down on the south coast compared to round here so I will be putting my CV around and hopefully something will turn up. I also want to get into management and I will weigh up what offers come in and will seek advice from the likes of Lee, Sean O'Driscoll and other friends before deciding what's best for Steve Fletcher. Hopefully at some point I will be back here at Chesterfield in some capacity as a visiting coach, assistant manager or manager because I still cannot believe I have only been here a year it seems far longer in the best possible way because of the friends I have made here in such a short time.

GOOD LUCK STEVE FROM EVERYONE AT CHESTERFIELD FC
