Jamie - how did you end up at Chesterfield?

I was doing pre-season at Doncaster and enjoying it, but I had a phone call from the manager showing some interest here; I spoke to my family and my fiancée about the possibility of signing here, and I had another call from the manager offering a contract. I liked his ambition and I wanted to come down and get it sorted straight away.

Is it anything to do with the fact that he's an Aberdeen legend?

No, he's a good, ambitious manager with a point to prove, like I have as a player, and I'm looking forward to working with him and getting the season started.

What sort of a player are you?

I'm a passing midfielder. I like to get on the ball and pass it. I'll hopefully help the strikers get some goals and pitch in with a few myself.

And tell us about your career so far?

I played for a few local sides in Dundee and played with Glasgow Rangers at youth level. I opted to sign for Leeds United and go professional with them. I was there for four years and moved up to Aberdeen; I was there for two and a half years.

I've found a newspaper headline that says "Dons misfit attracting attention from Doncaster Rovers." What's the "misfit" bit about?

Coming from Leeds, it was a big reputation, and the fans were a wee bit quizzed as to why I wasn't playing as much as I'd have liked to. When I first moved up I was playing week in, week out, but the manager has decisions to make and left me out a few times, so the fans were maybe a wee bit confused.

As a young lad you started watching your father?

Yes, my father played for Forfar and St Johnstone and I'd watch him every Saturday, and my interest grew from there, really.

And did he encourage you, or try to put you off playing?

He never pushed us towards football, but he was always there for good advice and guidance, but he's my worst critic - he's always first on my back if I'm slacking off!

You've played at Representative level - tell us about that?

I played from under-14 right up to under-19 level for Scotland, but it became difficult for Scotland people to see me when I was down at Leeds.

The fans have waited with baited breath for Lee Richardson to strengthen the midfield - does that put you under any pressure?

This will be a new challenge for me. I'll enjoy going out there and showing the fans what I can do. Hopefully they'll take a liking to me but I'll just do the right things and work hard. I want to make sure I'm the first name on the team sheet every week, and keep my standards high

Don't miss a thing!
