SPIREITES Central Defender Aaron Downes updated SPIREITES WORLD members with his plans for over the summer and next season.

Aaron, a clean sweep of awards this season at Saltergate how do you feel about that?

It's great, it's good to get the awards but awards don't make up for what's happened. But on personal level it's been good especially the award by my fellow players.

Why do you think you have been selected?

I've been consistent, and as a defensive unit we aimed not to concede as much but as I've been a regular starter you start to get recognised.

Are you pointing the fingers at the strikers?

No not at all,I've missed my fair share of goals this season, you have to blame the team but as a club and we shall try to come back stronger next season.

Now you've been with Chesterfield for sometime, you were with Frickley Athletic?

I've been with Chesterfield for three years now and I was playing for Frickley who are the same standard as Matlock.

You met Nick Richardson, Rico's brother did he has some influence?

Yes Nick recommended me to Lee and they brought me to Saltergate.

How do you feel with Lee Richardson as manager?

The feeling amongst the players is great news, he's knows the club and the structure and since Roy left there's been more changes and a lot of the players are a lot happier and more professional. Next season look out.

Is that a critiscism of Roy McFarland?

Not at all I think you're reading too much into that Geoff, people do things differently and I'm very grateful for Roy bringing me to the club and I learnt a lot from him, but time moves on.

What you doing over the summer?

I go away pretty much after the season finishes with the Australian U23's on the 16th May in Adelaide and a game on the 6th June we play Iran first then a game in Jordan and then I'm on holiday.

Good to see you still being picked for the Socceroos

It'll be good for the manager watching us play there, he's seen clips of me and hopefully he'll pick me for my first cap.

Just describe the various stages of the Australian National Sides?

You have the First Team called the Socceroo's, the Olympic team is called the Olyroos' the U17's are called the Joeys and the Ladies are the Matildas'.

Is this for Bejing?

Yes but with my commitments for Chesterfield I've not been able to play after being called up.

What's your expectations for next season?

Promotion! Then moving to a new stadium then the gaffers plans are to be in the Championship in two years.

Congratulations Aaron.
