Nicky Rizzo - Welcome to Saltergate. Tell us about yourself?

I came over to England when I was seventeen and started at Liverpool. I was there for two years and got into the first team squad, getting on the bench in the Premier League about six or seven times. Crystal Palace bought me and I played under Terry Venables, staying there for two years. I moved on when Palace went into administration and ended up moving to Italy (laughs) to play in Serie B for three years. I came back to England and was at the MK Dons for the last three seasons.

Presumably Martin Allen has different thoughts about who he wants in the side?

He brought in new players and I was part of his plans but not any more, so it's time to move on; this opportunity has come at Chesterfield and I'm going to grab it with both hands.

What sort of a player are you?

I'm a left-sided midfielder; I like to get the ball into the box and get in the final third to score goals. I like to take on players.

And you're an Australian international?

Yes, I've got two caps for Australia and I hope to add a few more in the next couple of years.

We seem to be getting taken over with Socceroos; we've Aaron Downes here…

I've never met Aaron, but I've heard of him, and its always nice to have a friendly voice around. It'll be good to get to know him but all the boys have made me feel welcome, so I'm really looking forward to it.

Tell us about your interests?

R 'n' B music; books, magazines; general interests, really; I've got nothing in particular. I like getting online and following what's happening back home. Its just a normal, quiet lifestyle.

What's your pre-match routine?

I normally eat at about eleven o'clock: pasta, rice, something like that. Plenty of fluids. I get a bit apprehensive before games but I always look forward to the match.

And your aim, while you're with Chesterfield?

To play as many games as I can, to do as well as I can and get out of this relegation zone.
