Bradford-born Mark was signed after one excellent display that helped Scarborough to an unlikely win at Saltergate.  He roasted our right-back and scored twice that day, albeit against an end-of-season experimental defence that included Dave Lancaster at its heart.  The Seadogs found our £40,000 offer irresistable and Mark joined in the summer of 1993. After struggling to make the required impact up front, though, Mark was tried in defence.  His shackling of Carlisle's Rod Thomas earned him a reputation as a limpet-like man-marker, but fans liked to see him going forward.

It took Mark a little time to become happy with his new role, but he became established as an attacking left wing-back.  Although he scored only a few goals, they were all a bit special and usually involved Mark running against a desperate, back-pedalling defender before unleashing a screaming shot from around the edge of the box. His finest hour, like so many of his contemporaries, was in the club's 1997 FA Cup semi-final against Middlesbrough, where the dangerous Brazilian Juninho was largely marked out of it by Julesy - although some credit must go to Iain Dunn, who reportedly played the part of Juninho in training!

Frustrated by a lack of regular, first-team football, Mark had a transfer request granted in November, 1988.  He eventually signed for Halifax Town after being freed in May '99.  With an eye to his future, Mark completed a PFA - sponsored sports physiotherapy course and returned to the Spireites, where he is currently assistant to Dave Bentley in the club's youth set-up.
