Jimmy Haig

Born in 1876, the son of a Bute farmer, James Halliburton Haig came through his local junior side, Rothesay Royal Victoria, to sign for St. Mirren, who were giants of the Scottish football scene at the time. He joined Derby County in 1898, playing three times, but was playing for the Kilbarchan team at the time that Chesterfield brought him back to England in 1900. He might well be regarded as Gilbert Gilles' finest signing and it is ironic that Haig did not debut for the Spireites until after Gilles left.
