A group of children from Belarus were guests of Chesterfield Football Club for the recent home game against Barnsley. The party who are child victims of the Chernobyl disaster are in the UK for a recuperative four week break.
The Chernobyl Children's Lifeline, which has brought over 40,000 children to stay with host families since 1992, also provides on-going supplies of multi-vitamins and basic healthcare products to the children on their return to the Minsk and Gomel areas of Belarus, as well as providing chemotherapy medicines for children too sick to travel.
Spireites community director John Croot said: "The Chernobyl Children's Lifeline charity does some wonderful work and we are delighted to be able to support the Pinxton and East Derbyshire branch which serves this area."
Chairman of the Pinxton and East Derbyshire branch, Richard Street said: "A big thank you to Chesterfield Football Club for inviting us to their wonderful new stadium to see a live match, which the children enjoyed immensely."
He added: "Earlier in the week the Midlands Co-operative Society kindly hosted a reception at the b2net stadium when we had a tour behind the scenes and a trip round the area on an open top bus."
"People in this area are so genereous for these unfortunate children and I want to thank everyone who has helped from the bottom of my heart."
