Posted on: Wed 04 Aug 2010

Football supporters are giving Chesterfield's £13 million 10,300 all-seater b2net stadium the big thumbs-up with superlatives ranging from spectacular to fantastic being typical reaction, and that's just the visiting fans following the pre-season games against Derby County and Barnsley.

It seems the whole matchday experience now on offer in what has already been described by fans as Chesterfield's 'mini Huddersfield' is already causing a buzz amongst fans eagerly anticipating a visit.

The club has been asking the fans for feedback and apart from a few minor teething problems the overwhelming response is that Chesterfield FC has delivered the business with a state of the art stadium that has not only done the town proud, but is already delivering what is being described as 'a great day out'.

With superb unrestricted views from all around the ground, a bowling green of a wide pitch, first class concourse catering serving beer to locally baked Jackson's pies, corporate hospitality lounges, and Chesterfield TV streaming the match live throughout the stadium, there is already a heady mix on offer that is putting the b2net on the soccer map for watching football.

Stadium manager Colin Nellist said:  "For the first two matches at the b2net stadium we had 7,550 spectators for the visit of Derby County and 3,757 spectators for the Barnsley game and everyone came to enjoy a superb matchday experience, and did so in complete safety, which has to be a major success for the club."

The b2net stadium is seen as kick-starting a major regeneration in the town, not least in the Whittington Moor area.  Colin Nellist said: "We have already been commended for being the catalyst in bringing much-needed new revenue for local businesses in the Whittington Moor area, with some businesses experiencing their best ever trading days."

Following some complaints concerning traffic issues highlighted by the local paper, Colin Nellist said:  "We would ask those visiting the b2net stadium by car to show some consideration for our new neighbours and as an alternative use the club's free shuttle bus service on matchdays."

"We would also like to hear from any local businesses and organisations in the area which would like to open up their car parks on matchdays so we could publicise their availability."

He added: "It will take some time for everything to settle down until the supporters and our new neighbours get used to each other, after all we had 139 years at Saltergate and we have only been in situ at Whittington Moor for a couple of weeks."

Chesterfield play their first ever league game against Barnet at the b2net stadium this Saturday 7 August 2010, kick-off 3.00pm, followed by the high-profile televised visit of Championship side Middlesbrough in the first round of the Carling Cup on Tuesday 10 August, kick-off 7.45pm.

Tickets for both games are now on sale, with the club issuing a reminder that it's all ticket for every game at the b2net, no cash is accepted on the turnstiles.

And finally, thanks to supporters for all the feedback received so far, every piece is being read.
