Aberdeen FC is running a new series in their matchday programme this season looking back at some of the players who have become cult heroes amongst the Red Army. The first player featured is Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson and we reproduce the article by kind permission.
Willie Miller signed the midfielder from Blackburn Rovers in September 1992 and his first appearance came as a substitute in the League Cup Semi final against Celtic, helping the Dons to a famous 1-0 win.

He played 80 times for Aberdeen, scoring 10 goals, his most memorable probably the effort against Torino in the UEFA Cup tie at Pittodrie.
He very quickly became a firm favourite with the fans adding some steel to the midfield and allowing the likes of Bett, Jess and Connor to do their stuff.
His battles with Ian Ferguson were legendary, although both players were actually friendly with each other off the park.

Lee could play as well though. Very comfortable on the ball, he could pass, score goals and had fantastic energy levels.
Maybe his combative style meant people forgot he was a complete all round player. Away from football, he relaxed with his rock band
During his first season, the Dons were runners up to Rangers in all three competitions - losing the League Cup 2-1 in extra time to a Gary Smith own goal, then losing the Scottish Cup final 2-1 at Celtic Park with Lee scoring for the Dons that day.
Sadly Lee's career at Pittodrie was all too short; feeling hounded by referees, he returned to England and joined Oldham Athletic in 1994.
Lee is currently manager of Chesterfield and has been linked with various managerial positions at a higher level.
