The Spireites travelled to the North of the County to play at the Bright Finance Stadium, better known to locals as the Coach & Horses ground, to take on the oldest club in the World, Sheffield FC. The game ended all square at 1-1, Jordan Bowery equalising ex Alfreton Town man Mick Goddard's headed opener.

Chesterfield's side included first team squad members that didn't start at Burton on Saturday plus the three first year pro's, youth teamer Bowery and three triallists. Striker Scott Boden (from Sheffield United) looked sharp in his first full 90 minutes for th club. Belgian Awasi Oduro showed a few flashes and some simple, pragmatic play whilst a new face at the club, 19 year old Mark Charlesworth, appeared at centre half and then right back in his first appearance. He's been at Bolton Wanderers since he was 12.

A bright start by Chesterfield saw plenty of crosses delivered into the box. Jamie Winter's free kick found Danny Hall, keeper Steve Hernandiz caught Ben Algar's delivery and also a ball in from Dan Gray all inside the opening five minutes.

Boden's shot was comfortably gathered by the keeper before Sheffield's first effort, Gavin Smith shot over after Vill Powell's effort was blocked.

Hernandiz did well to block a Bowery shot after some great skill by the youngster, Aaron Downes headed over from the resulting corner.

The hosts enjoyed a five minute spell that culminated in Goddard heading just wide midway through the first half.

Boden, Winter and Gray all lashed in shots before Oduro saw hos angled low effort saved and the same player then crossed across the six but no-one was able to get a foot on the ball.

Sheffield took the lead on 36, Goddard glancing Powell's right wing cross into the far corner with the deftest of headers.

Within two minutes it was all square. Gray played the ball wide to Boden, he crossed high and Winter made a beutiful touch to feed Bowery who rifled home from 15 yards.

Algar shot wide as did Powell just before the break.

The second half was somewhat cagier. Bowery blazed wide and high, Goddard, well offside, slid the ball in and the officials rightly disallowed it and Winter prompted some first class passing moves from the centre of the park.

However on 65 Winter, captain for the night, moved into the back four when Downes was subbed, Charlesworth moved from centre half to right back and continued to look steady in that position.

Oduro played the ball in and Algar and Bowery were just inches away from a telling contact before Boden shot on the turn after a Bowery pass, Hernandiz saved well. Boden fired just wide and sub Adam Smith hit high as Chesterfield chased a win but in the end the enjoyable contest ended all square.
