NEW STADIUM SITE MILESTONE
A famous landmark will soon disappear from the Chesterfield landscape and it marks another milestone in the twelve month clearance of the Sheffield Road site ahead of major re-development.

The two lone chimneys
The two large chimneys, which were part of the old Dema Glass factory complex, are due to be blown-up by the Mayor of Chesterfield on Sunday 20 August 2006.
The actual details will be publicised shortly by site owners Wilson Bowden to give local townsfolk the chance to witness the event.

Caution - site clearance underway
Although steady progress has been made in clearing the 25 acre site, 10 acres of which is planned for a new football stadium, there are several months ahead for decontamination and site levelling before any actual construction can take place.

Much done, much more to do
It is understood that discussions between the Borough Council and Wilson Bowden, the owners of the overall 25 acre site, are now at an advanced stage about the likely contents of this major development.
Chesterfield FC continues to make preliminary plans with its stadium architect but final stadium specifications and costings cannot be finalised until the terms for handing over the 10 acre stadium site are formally agreed.

Actual site for the new football stadium
The site for the football stadium fronts the old A61 Sheffield Road with the main stadium entrance expected to be located opposite Fitness First.

Part of the stadium site is the old sports field
When it becomes possible for full stadium plans to be progressed it is planned to hold an open day so supporters can study the plans and make their comments known.
The demolition and clearance work are expected to be completed by Spring 2007, which means that with a fifty-week build programme and subject to final planning approval, a new stadium could be ready in advance of the start of the 2008-09 season.
