A draft planning brief published by Chesterfield Borough Council for the future re-development of Saltergate includes provision for special artwork to commemmorate the centre-spot of the Saltergate pitch since 1871.
The draft brief provides guidance on how the site should be redeveloped after the football club relocates to the recently approved new Stadium to be constructed at the former Dema Glass site on Sheffield Road.
The planning brief proposes the redevelopment of the Stadium for between 120 and 150 new dwellings, open space and commercial office use along Saltergate, with vehicle access from Cross Street and St Margaret's Drive.

But the highspot for Chesterfield fans will be recognition of the historic nature of the site with the actual centre sport recognised at its middle.
The draft brief also provides guidance on a range of related issues including design, layout, provision of affordable housing, community infrastructure and the information that would be needed in support of a planning application.
