The football club wants to share this early information with supporters as the last update was 3 August 2007.

The football club has today been advised that site developer Wilson Bowden's retail partner is preparing to commit to the project, which is a crucial next step that could lead to this major regeneration project getting the green light to go ahead.

This is the information that the club has been waiting for and is a clear indication that movement on the project could get underway soon.  The club is not committing to any specific dates as these are still in the hands of other parties.

More details are expected when a formal joint statement from Wilson Bowden, the retail partner, the Borough Council and Chesterfield FC is issued when all partners are fully in a position to go public on the plans.

The next formal steps in the project will be progressed when all parties are in a position to proceed forward together.  Chesterfield FC has had no influence or involvement with the deliberations between Wilson Bowden and their site partner.

But news that their deliberations are about to be concluded is a positive step as Chesterfield Borough Council has already indicated that it prefers just one planning application for the majority of the site, rather than on a piecemeal basis.

The football club has ensured that the new stadium plans at Whittington Moor are in place and ready to go when the planning process can commence, hopefully, in the near future.

A reminder of the timescales involved. The statutory planning process could take up to 16 weeks and a 52 week build programme would be required for the new stadium.

Fans are reminded that the overall Whittington Moor development, which includes a new stadium for the Spireites, will be the focal point for a progressive regeneration scheme that will change the profile of the town of Chesterfield forever.
