This is Chesterfield's first competitive game in the brewing town for over 100 years - we lost last time, so I hope no-one remebers it!

The lads, in blue, are wearing black armbands in memory of Sue Green and there was a great tannoy announcement ahead of kick off.

Talbot starts wide right with Lowry on the left and Small up.

Robertson heads away a Harrad cross in a tentative opening. Gregor then picks oit Lester but Branston intervenes and the ball runs out for a goal kick to Burton. Small crossed but Lester just missed out on receiving. Goodfellow crossed but Lee caught. Breckin heads away an Austin cross as the game makes a slow start. Gray find Lester and his cross goes out for a right wing corner. Branston heads out Lowry's kick to Talbot whose shot is caught by Krysiak.

Breckin nicks it off Walker after a Harrad flick on in a rare Brewers raid. Lester loses out to McGrath but Albion's route forward is cut off by Gray. McGrath dinks one 25 yards wide and gets a jeer from the travelling fans. James heads away a decent Talbot cross with 15 played.

Spireites took the lead in the 17th minute. Lee found Talbot and his pass saw SMALL outrun Branston and slide the ball beyond the keeper. It was a cool finish to register the ex-Owls' first goal for the club and you could see why Brewers wanted Brecks as their first choice sentre back!

17 mins: Albion 0 Spireites 1

Goodfellow put in a low shot that Lee got down to with few problems. The game's got a bit of a pre-season feel about it, but when you're in front, that's no bad thing.

Gritton, Boden, Picken, Bowery and Kerry all sitting four rows in front of me, just about everyone here at the Pirelli. Branston gets a header in but there's no pickle for Tommy (it had to be said!). Gregor with the worst foul throw for a while, he just drops it in front of him right in front of the Chesterfield bench. Sheridan shouts 'You'd better win that ball back.' Brewers win a free kick 25 out, just left of centre, Austin hits it and the only thing in danger is the corner flag!

Niven fouls Austin after Allott loses possession, another 25 yarder, more central this time. Harrad hits it, a couple of feet over, not a bad effort. Austin robs Walker as he turned and looked to shhot, Albion's first corner and Lee shoved over for a free kick. Krysiak punches away a Niven ball in ahead of Lester, the game's still a bit slow and friendly-like. Talbot rides a tackler and picks out Lester but James does well to intervene. Lester fouled, free kick 30 out, Gray hits the wall, Talbot crosses and a corner off Austin that is headed well wide by Breckin. 35 played.

Lester spoken to by the ref who makes it clear, any more fouling and it's yellow.

Spireites extend the lead, a ball out wide picks out TALBOT who fires in an unstoppable angled shot into the top corner.

38 mins: Brewers 0 Spireites 2

Drew may have felt aggrieved about missing out on a goal on Saturday but make no mistake, this was a cracker from nothing! Talbot fires one across the face, Lowry almost gets a touch before Lester blasts high and wide from an acute angle, one way traffic at the moment. Lester forces a paw style save from Krysiak after neat Robertson and Lowry work.

Ryan Austin hits air after a Robertson header out as Albion try to get into a game thay've not been in at all. Allott has a long ranger blocked after a Lester pass and Spireites win another flag kick. 1 min extra as the corner comes to nothing. Allott whips one in close to the post after a Lowry tee up as Spireites end the half on top.

Half Time: Albion 0 Chesterfield 2

Second half underway with Albion having introduced Pearson and Phillips for Walker and Goodfellow. Just spotted Ian McParland sitting a few seats away. Albion pull one back after 55 seconds, McGRATH slides it home from the box edge. Just what the Doctor didn't order.

46 minutes: Brewers 1 Spireites 2

McGrath hits an angled effort over as the hosts respond to what will have been a Peschisolido half time hairdryer. 'What's going on?' asks JS from the away dug-out. Breckin heads out for a throw as the homesters continue in determined mood. Their fans are heard for the first time, never a good sign. A deep Lester cross is headed by Talbot but he just failed to pick out Niven. Small almost winkles out Lester but a James leg does just enough. Breckin clears ahead of Pearson but the break out ends with a Niven overhit pass.

Brewers are significantly more wound up now, who said it was like a pre-season friendly? Small passes to Lester and Austin bocks for a corner. Over delivered by Lowry and Niven wins a throw at the far touchline,  Gray takes, half cleared and Niven blazes over.

Small on his haunches, he's struggling. Penn sees a shot loop up off a defender's boot and Lee has to scramble to save for a corner that comes to nothing. Page called to the dugout, a change on the cards? Lester into the box, Branston tackles, half hearted shouts for a pen, but the ref not impressed. Maghoma drived one in, Lee saves at full stretch. Page replaces Austin.

Breathing space for the Spireites, Lester chips over a static back four and SMALL finishes with aplomb.

62 mins: Brewers 1 Spireites 3

Lester chips just over from 20 after a Small pass on and Lester then puts one just wide as Spireites look to end the contest. Lowry was clearly held back as he ran into the box but no foul given. Niven sees a blaster blocked by Branston.

Page clears from Phillips and Talbot wins a corner on the break. Lowry takes and Small, at the far post, is almost in for a hat-trick but Krysiak blocks at the foot of the post. Small holds his head in frustration, it was a whisker away. Niven's cross hacked away, it's one way traffic again. Branston hacks down Small but Page's free kick is cleared. Lester just underhit to Allott, who was clear, but the defence blocked, Talbot then Niven were then within inches of great balls in with 20 remaining.

McDermott and Harsley on for Lester and Niven. Drew goes up top. Allott booked for a nothing foul and Albion bring on Corbett for James on 74. McDermott makes a good run across the box but no shooting opportunity came his way. McDermott then blazes well wide after a Small pass.

Branston tackles Lowry well after a Small pass, corner. Breckin has a header blocked then Branston almost og's with a power header that Krysiak is forced to save well. Allott shields well from Pearson as the 81 minute mark passes. Branston booked for a foul on Talbot. McDermott let the ball slip away after a cracking Small, Talbot move before Harrad hit over for Albion.

Spireites ensured their passage into Round 2 when LOWRY scored from close range at the second attempt after a right wing cross from McDermott.

86 mins: Brewers 1 Spireites 4

Whilst it may be our first competitive game against Albion, our scoring record in friendlies here (and at Eton Park) is impressive, 6-0, 3-0 and 3-2 wins ahead of today.

Lee tips over a Phillips angled effort and Small hits one wide, there may still be another goal in it yet! And right on cue, Drew rolls in from a McDermott pass but the flag rules it out. McDermott sees Krysiak save low down as the 4th official signals 3 to go.

McDermott wins a corner but massively overhits, we still need to work on set plays.

With 92 gone, Page passes to TALBOT who chips in to make it five.

90+2 mins: Brewers 1 Spireites 5

All over, an easy win, just a few anxious moments in the early moments of the second half, but four quality finished from Wade and Drew and a persistent one from Jamie give us a terrific win.
