Four changes to the Spireites side which lost at Accrington last week. Out went Derek Niven with a knee injury, Jack Lester suspended and Alan Goodall and Martin Gritton dropped to the bench. In came fit again Lewis Montrose, Scott Boden, Ben Algar & Peter Till. Joe Mclaughlin the City keeper was making his League Debut.
Early exchanges were dominated around the midfield area with neither side fashioning a chance. On 18 Lee Bullock played through Michael Boulding and his left footed shot was saved by Tommy Lee. Chances were at a premium for both teams but the next opportunity fell for the Bantams a Nicky Law through ball fed Joe Colbeck who chipped wide, it looked easier to score. Moments later a Boulding shot was saved by Lee yet again.
On 35 a cross by Luke O'Brien was headed wide by Bullock. Finally the Spireites had a chance of note when a shot by Drew Talbot after good work by Algar & Boden was saved by Mclaughlin. Four minutes later a Jared Wilson cross a header by Boden by went over the bar.

On 52 a Shot by Nicky Law was saved by Tommy Lee, minutes later and it was 1 nil to City, excellent work by Nicky Law placed the ball to Dean Furman who shot home. Immediately the Spireites made a substitution with Lewis Montrose limping off to be replaced by Jamie Winter. Two mins and Leon Osbourne came on for Rory Boulding. Chesterfield made a second sub with Jordan Bowery replacing Peter Till.
On 63 minutes a game devoid of chances saw a Law free kick go harmlessly over the bar. Lee Askham then replaced Scott Boden for his first ever league appearance. On 75 minutes a Dean Furman shot went wide of the post. On 77 a Winter through ball gave Drew Talbot the best opportunity of the game but he placed the ball wide. Kyle Nix then replaced Nicky Law, four minutes later and it was 2-0 with a shot by Nix it hit Dan Gray and Michael Boulding shot first time past Lee. In the closing moments a shot by Robertson went over the bar.
