MARK Stallard's first half goal wasn't enough to stop the Spireites crashing to a second Christmas defeat at the Racecourse Ground.Roy McFarland made three changes to Sundays line up Mark Stallard returned instead of the Chief Wayne Allison to partner Caleb Folan up front, and the two Marks Allott and Hudson returned to the Spireites midfield replacing Adam Smith and Mark Innes.
Wrexham dominated the early possession on a boggy Racecourse pitch and they penned the Spireites back with a combination of determined play and neat movement which caused Evatt and Blatherwick problems in particular. The Red Dragons took the lead on 14 minutes Andy Holts deep cross was headed back across the Spireite six yard line by Chris Armstrong for defender Steve Roberts to nod home passed a rather static Spireite defence.
Ian Evatt picked up his 5th booking of the season for a late challenge on Armstrong. Evatt was quickly followed into referee Cowborns notebook by Caleb Folan for another late challenge this time on Roberts.
Chesterfield then had the better of the next ten minutes but Stallard and Folan both failed to hold the ball up long enough for support to arrive. Though the Spireites perhaps should have levelled when a neat move between Sammy Clingan and Mark Hudson released the young Irish midfielder but Dibble closed the angle and Clingans shot was well blocked by Dibb
On 36 minutes. Wrexham broke away from there own area and the ball fell into Jones stride 25 yards from Carl Muggletons goal the Welsh midfielder hit an unstoppable shot into the top right hand corner of Muggletons' goal and as Andy Gray says "you wouldn't have stopped that with two keepers" a tremendous effort
Chris Armstrong then failed to retreat 10 yards for a freekick and was booked on 39 minutes
Just before the break Stallard set Shane Nicholson clear on the left and his cross from the byline found Mark Hudson who passed the ball back to Stallard who coolly passed the ball into the net to reduce the arrears
Half Time 2-1
The Spireites then dominated the early period of the second half and Stallard twice went close to levelling the scores. Mark Allott's long throw was flicked on by Blatherwick and Stallard's volley was parried away by Dibble on 52 minutes.
Derek Niven was replaced by Adam Smith for the Spireites and a minute later Stallard again saw a powerful strike hit Dibble the rebound fell again to the Barnsley loanee this attempt was blocked and the rebound fell to Evatt who again thumped the ball goal ward only for another val
Just before the hour Mark Allott fouled Holt on the edge of the
Mark DeBolla made a return replacing Mark Stallard and Wayne Allison replaced a tiring Caleb Folan as the Spireites tried in vain to get back into the game in the last thirty minutes.
Another disappointing away defeat but Wrexham simply appeared to want it more and they deservedly ran out comfortable winners. The manner of the defeat is a worry the midfield doesn't look balanced without an effective wide man and lots of pretty passing football seems to go nowhere without the movement, fight and urgency we seemed to have earlier in the season.
