SPIREITESWORLD'S Geoff Mitchell caught up with Chesterfield Chairman Barrie Hubbard after Tuesday's press conference read on to see what he had to say
Chesterfield Chairman Barrie Hubbard you have just had a press conference what have you told the media?
We have just informed everyone that two new directors have joined the board Chris Breeze and David Jones who are local business men and supporters of the Club have been invited to join the board.
They will bring a fresh approach to Chesterfield marketing and commercial activities does it need it?
It definitely needs it. We have done our best but we need people on the board who know different people and are experts in commercial and marketing activities. This will obviously be a big advantage to the Football Club has it will bring in more revenue and therefore also be an advantage to the manager who will have a bigger budget to sign better players.
Next season you have said it's the boards aim to try and break even next year without cost cutting?
Yes we have a £200,000 gap to fill the easiest way to do that would be to cut the wages by £200,000. To me that would be a backward step so the more income we get the less we would have to take away from the wages. So we need more commercial activities but most of all we need better players at Club which would in turn increase gates and increase support which is where our current income is through our supporters.
Have they brought some fresh funds into the Club?
Yes they have brought some funds to the Football Club in relationship to what others directors have got in. That's very good but it's really what they can bring to the Football Club in the future that's important.
Others have made noises about joining the board whilst money is one thing you obviously feel you can work with two.
Yes we have met with them on many occasions and explained the situation at the Football Club and I do think we can work with them and that's why obviously we have asked them to join the board. The money is important but we haven't had a big cash injection into the Club because we have used some of the money to repay some debentures previously held.
Has the injection of funds equalised the balance of loans between the directors
Yes it was at the stage where one director had £260,000 in debentures which is to much and now some of the larger loans have been repaid. We want the money owed to directors to come down so if anyone wants leave at any stage it will be easier to replace them and the CFSS are in full agreement with this.
The other information was about Wheeldon Mill what's the latest?
Wheeldon Mill is hopefully being sorted and we will be applying for outline planning permission on the 14th of June and hopefully that will be granted by the council.
If the Council do give planning permission when could Wheeldon Mill be open?
Hopefully I would like to think that in two years we could have a new ground at Wheeldon Mill. I don't know if we will get the planning permission but I hope we do. I have said before the Club won't survive at Saltergate for much longer than two more seasons. But will have to wait for planning permission to be approved then we will give everyone more details on the design and shape of the ground.
