Ashley: Exciting times are ahead

Posted on: Fri 19 Mar 2010

Ashley Carson spoke to Spireites Player before last weekend's game against  Port Vale.  Ashley started the interview by telling Player a little about his background and he said "I had four and a half years on the board at Sheffield Wednesday so I have a lot of experience from that time both a Sheffield Wednesday and also from visiting other clubs and I hope to use that experience to benefit Chesterfield"

On how his involvement with Chesterfield came about and on the season so far Ashley continued

"I was actually invited to join Chesterfield four months ago but the Football League have to check that I had no duel interests anywhere and that I have no shares in any other football clubs which took a while. But we got the green light last week and I am looking forward to getting started because exciting times are ahead here. I have worked with Dave before and I know how he works and he expects a lot and expects things to be delivered.

On the season so far "The away form was a little disappointing at the start but we are on a good run of form at the moment and we are looking towards a real exciting climax to the season. We have a great manager in John Sheridan and he's really positive. I hope that more fans come along and get behind the team and we can push on and combine promotion with moving into the new stadium"

Moving on in the interview the Spireites move to the b2net Stadium is firmly on the horizon and clearly part of the new directors thinking and he told Spireites Player

"After the move I hope Chesterfield will be seen as a serious club in terms of offering extra facilities to potential customers and we have the opportunities to offer large companies a fantastic day out at the club .We also have the corporate and external catering side to be looking at to expand the brand of Chesterfield Football Club.  At the start of the season I sat in the stand here at Saltergate with my son and it was an real eye opener in the terms of the facilities or rather the lack of them. But the fans will be rewarded with some fantastic facilities both on and off match days at the new ground.  Over the next few months I will be working with the directors and the commercial team to prepare things for the new ground and organising packages for the start of next season to make the b2net stadium the premier venue in North Derbyshire.
