In the first of three action shots, Ray Middleton anxiously watches a Sheffield Wednesday shot fly goalwards at Hillsborough in September 1949


Stan stands on the post as a Wednesday man climbs above Bob Southall. Ken Booker looks on. It is December 1949, and that grey splodge along the Pop Side is a mass of spectators!

Stan prevents a Wednesday forward from delivering a "Hand of God" moment in the same game. Ken Booker is poised to intervene. 25,000 watched the game.


Sopme worried faces, and deservedly so. This was taken at Kenilworth Road before a match that all but confirmed the club's relegation to division three (north) in 1951.
