Posted on: Mon 01 Feb 2010

A pleased John Sheridan spoke to Spireite Player after seeing his side hang on with ten men to claim the Spireites first ever win over Morecombe in the Spireites last visit to Christie Park.

John told Player "The most important thing was the three points and it's a very tough place to come. But to play an hour with ten men and to win the game, full credit to the players. I thought the work rate and determination was quality and they helped each other to keep the clean sheet. Luckily after the sending  off we had something to hold on too. But we showed character and kept a clean sheet"

On Frankie Artus's double bookings John commented

"It was never a sending the fourth Official said the first booking shouldn't have been a booking so I don't see why the referee didn't show any leniency for the second one."

Finally John told Player why he changed the formation and after failing to add to his squad before the game he seemed confident of new faces arriving before the January transfer window closes at 5pm on Monday.

"I went 3-5-2 because my wide men are injured or gone back after loans. We started slowly but then got into the game and created a few half chances. So I went with something and luckily for me it worked. Martin Gritton came in and not done himself any harm at all. So it's up to the players in the side to keep their places as the injured players come back and new recruits hopefully come in by five o'clock on Monday."
