John: They will be a stiff test for us

Posted on: Sun 06 Dec 2009

Spireites boss John Sheridan looked ahead to Saturday game against Aldershot and he told Spireites Player "Aldershot have brought in Kevin Dillon has manager who has been around the Premier League with Steve Coppell and I am sure he will improve them further, and they will be a stiff test for us. They try and play and have some height and pace in the side and have a good home record. So its like every game if we aren't at the races we will lose the game. But we have beaten two teams at the top so we will be going there confident that we can win the game.

John then reported there were no new injuries but he had a bit of selection headache with a comparatively large squad to choose from and he continued

"We have no new injuries and I have plenty of options available and I will put the right team out to win us the game.  I thought we deserved something from the game on Wednesday it was a very open game and we got beat which was disappointing. What was pleasing was the character we showed we went 2-0 down after we should have been 2-0 up. But we kept going didn't panic and tried to get back into the game the right way passing the ball and we had a go but unfortunately we didn't get what we deserved. We have to tighten up at the back. People are told and given instructions but it seems players can switch off. But if we want to be a successful team we have to defend better."

On the Spireites poorish away record so far John concluded

"I think we should have more points away from home though we were poor at Bradford and Bury but in the other games I think we have deserved a better return. I think we are doing the right things but it's the little things of scoring the first goal and being solid when we have to we have to learn. We have to pick up points away if we are to stay at or near the top."
