John: Our worst performance of the season

Posted on: Mon 09 Nov 2009

A disappointed John Sheridan faced the Spireite Player camera after watching his side slip to a first home defeat of the season against Bournemouth in what turned out to be the Spireites last ever FA Cup at Saltergate.

John told Player "It was a disappointing performance after we had got off to a very good start. We had too many people off their game and we just didn't get going for some reason. But credit to Bournemouth they are a good side and deserved to win the game.

I have been trying all week to bring in two players to replace Lowry and McDermott because we missed them, and I think today was our worst performance of the season. We had too many players having off days. So I am trying to bring in a couple of quality players to replace them and give us our shape back which was perhaps missing today. So we will see now, how we bounce back after our first home defeat after a performance that didn't merit anything."

John then confirmed that Wade Small's injury isn't hopefully very severe and added "Wade took a kick on his ankle so unless he twisted it he should be okay but we will have to see how settles down in the next couple of days"

Moving on John talked about receiving the Coca Cola League Two Manager Of The Month for October and John continued

"The Manager of the Month doesn't really mean anything to me because I haven't done anything yet. Hopefully I will get something at the end of the season when I get the team out of the League. But credit to the players they won the games and picked up the points that I asked them to do."

Finally John asked for the Player camera to remain rolling and he added

"Can I just say I don't understand a few supporters and I don't want to make a big thing out of this and I hope no one else does. But I don't understand one or two people who are moaning and were shouting for me to go back to Sheffield and what have ya. I have only been here three or four months, I just don't understand them, so if they want to carry on like that please stay at home, please stay at home .

Today we played poorly and I am as frustrated and unhappy about that and the players are disappointed they haven't won the game. I know the majority 99% of crowd are right behind the team and the way we have been playing. We have lost one game in ten and we won't win every game and I don't' want to go back to Sheffield because I want to be successful here. I just don't understand the mentality of some of the comments so I would like them to stay at home rather than come and back the team and help us."
