John: We showed some character
A delighted John Sheridan spoke to Spireites Player after seeing his side finally beat Huddersfield Town on penalties after a thrilling Johnstone' s Paint Trophy 2nd round clash at Saltergate
John told Player "It was disappointing to go to penalties because in the second half I thought we played really well. We got in their faces a little a bit and to be 3-1 up with five minutes to go I thought was just reward for our second half performance. I told the players at half time that we had to believe in ourselves a bit more and the players showed that in the second half."
On Huddersfield and the spot kicks John continued
"Huddersfield have some good players and I fancy they will do well in League One and they were a good test for us. But we stood up very well and to score three goals in the manner we did was pleasing I don't want to dwell on their goals we will sort that out on the training ground. But after going to penalties again I thought we showed some character I told them not to worry about we were still in the game. The five all volunteered immediately and credit to them becuase we score the four we took."
Finally John reflected back on the goalscorers Drew Talbot and Jordan Bowery and he added
"I am pleased Drew got a couple and Jordan got off the mark he's got potential and we are working very hard with him, and the goal will boost his confidence."
