John: We are going there for three points

Posted on: Mon 07 Sep 2009

John Sheridan spoke to Spireites Player ahead of Saturday's local derby against Rotherham United at the Don Valley Stadium. John started by reflecting back on a sad week following the sudden death of Ticket Office Manager Sue Green on Bank Holiday Monday

"People were a bit down in the dumps after Monday's news about Sue. But I am sure Sue was watching on Tuesday and the result would have brought a big smile to her face.  Of course we would have loved for her to have been at the game watching from the sidelines as usual.  But it was a great result but a lot worse things have happened this week and we are still trying to get over them.  But we have to concentrate on the football and we will be trying harder now to get out of the division for Sue.

John then looked ahead to the game on Saturday that of course kicks off slightly earlier than usual at 2pm

John continued  "Rotherham have had a great start and are well fancied to get out of the division.  We are expecting a tough game but we are going there full of confidence. I believe that on our day we can beat anybody in this division.

John was then asked about the recent report about the Don Valley pitch following the recent U2 concert held  at Don Valley and the news that Miller' manager Mark Robins is in talks about the vacant managers job at Barnsley.

John said "If the games on the games on. So there's nothing you can do about it and we have to get on with it. I don't want to be talking about the pitch and I am sure Rotherham don't enjoy playing on it either at the moment.  We have had Rotherham watched and know there strengths and weakness's and if Mark Robins is there it doesn't concern me. We are going there for three points.
