Spireites manager John Sheridan spoke to Spireite Player after his sides opening day defeat at Torquay. John started by telling Player
"Obviously we wanted to win the game and to get off to a good start. But I will take a lot of positives from the game and I think we should have really got something from the game. Hopefully though with the level of performance we had today it should ensure you win more games than you lose."
On the goals conceded John added
"Both goals were sloppy and could have been avoided. We have worked on trying to stop crosses coming into the box. But if you allow crosses into the box there's always a chance to score besides that Mark's not had a save to make all day. But two crosses come into the box and they score two goals and we will learn from it hopefully."
John then continued by talking about his team selection of Darren Currie starting the game "We new they are big and strong and I thought by playing Darren Currie behind Drew and with Donal McDermott's pace we would cause them problems and we did at times. We created opportunities and on another day we could have scored two or three goals. It wasn't to be and we have to be more clinical and clearly we have to do better in that department."
New loan signing Donal McDermott caught the eye and was named Spireite Players Man of The Match and his bright debut pleased his new though currently short term manager
John then added "I thought Donal was excellent he only joined up with us yesterday and I thought he was bright and really positive and he can only get better and help us to get some positives results in the next week"
Finally John looked ahead to the trip to Scunthorpe United in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night and he said
"We will be trying our best to get into the next round and we many people wont really be expected us to win the game. But if we play like we did today we will cause them problems and I will probably make a few changes from today's starting line up "
