Tommy: It Was A Good Run Out

Posted on: Fri 31 Jul 2009

Tommy Wright spoke to Spireites World after seeing the Spireites beat Matlock 5-2 at Causeway Lane. However despite winning the game Tommy was not that happy with the side after they conceded two late goals.

Tommy told World "It was a good run out and we played some good stuff. But I am disappointed with the two late goals. They were very sloppy and we showed  a lack of concentration and decisiveness. In the last twenty minutes when Matlock should have been tiring and we didn't pass the ball quickly enough and dallied on the ball. It's okay if your five up but if that happens at 0-0 or 1-1 you lose the game, so that was disappointing and I have just told the players that. If we want to be successful at Chesterfield we can't let those mistakes happen. We will be honest with the players and tell them to there face when they are good and when they do things wrong.

However overall Tommy then talked World subscribers through the goals and he was pleased that the strikers all scored and with Paul Harsley's display in midfield Tommy continued

But some of the stuff we played was good and its pleasing that all the strikers scored and Paul Harsley did very well in the middle of the park.  The first goal was good movement with Jordan and Gritt's and it was a good header by Gritts after Boden's cross. Gritts then missed a sitter. Jordan then got two goals and he has to learn to play on the last man and use his pace. He's a good finisher and said to him afterwards that good goalscorers get greedy and don't want two goals they want four or five so he needs to become more selfish. Jack goal was a bit of class so like I said its pleasing that the strikers all scored.

One problem though appears to be Alan Goodall who was taken off as a precaution after picking up an ankle injury and he may be doubtful for Tuesday's Saltergate clash against Leicester City.

Tommy added "The one downside was Goody picked up an ankle injury it doesn't look to bad but we will have to wait and see on that one. The next two games against Leicester and Kettering we will be stepping up the tactical side and getting ready for Torquay.  We are hopeful that we can bring some players in the squads a bit thin. We want to bring in players that have played at a higher level and who will improve the squad. John's good at bringing players in and talking them into dropping a division or perhaps two .I think we are close with a couple but you know how it is its never easy with agents and moneys involved and often that's to much money at times.
