John Sheridan was named as Chesterfield manager in June 2009, replacing Lee Richardson whose contract was not renewed.
The former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder was named along with his former Oldham Athletic coaching colleagues Tommy Wright (assistant) and Mark Crossley (player-coach).
Sheridan, who was manager at Boundary Park for almost three years, is a former Republic of Ireland International. His managerial record at Oldham was good. He led The Latics to a play-off semi final in his first season, just missed the top six in his second and he was surprisingly sacked in March 2009 with his side sitting in the play-off zone.
Wednesday's 1991 Carling Cup winning goal-hero made over 600 league appearances during his playing career with Manchester City, Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Owls, Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers, Doncaster Rovers and Oldham. He was a team mate of Wright's at Elland Road.
Wright's playing career included spells at Oldham, Middlesbrough and in his native Scotland with St Johnstone and Livingston before a spell at Doncaster during their Conference days whilst Crossley, who doubles up as coach and back up keeper, is best remembered for a thirteen year spell at Nottingham Forest, much of it under the tutelage of Brian Clough, who also signed Sheridan as a player but sold him on after just one appearance.
