Lee started by reflecting back on a disappointing April
"We were three points away taking it into the last game of the season. We have dropped too many points from winning positions and that's why we haven't achieved what we wanted to achieve. Today was all ways on the cards because of the injury list. Missing out is not about today or last weeks poor performance at Accrington. It's about not taking enough points from the previous seven games. Add to that the first half of the season we were mid-table so it's a disappointing end. The biggest frustration of late is a lack of threat in front of goal.
Lee picked out young striker Jordan Bowery as a highlight of the game and he continued
"The biggest plus of today was Jordan Bowery he's got real potential that needs nurturing. Dave Bentley and Mark Jules have worked very hard and we have a good crop of first years so the futures looking good for the football club."
Finally when asked his own future Lee added
"I will just carry on doing my job until the Board decide what they want to do. I think the Derbyshire Times headline is about right its in the balance. The Board have to take stock of the frustration and disappoint which is shown all too easily from our supporters. Then counter balance that with how they think we have been running the football Club. So its up to them to decide if the last two years have been abject failure or near misses and can we go one better next time. Bradford City seem to looking at their misses as positive steps we will have to see if that's the view here".
"I have done nothing to be ashamed of. When was the last time Chesterfield were In the Premiership. We are a second division club. Bradford City were in the Premier League ten years ago but they are prepared to stick by a young manager whose learning the ropes like myself. Last season we were the best team in the division for half a season and this season we were the best team in the division for a month. In my opinion we have come closer this year and we should have got it.
"A big percentage of supporters will blame me which is part of the job managers have to accept. I have learnt a lot and I have made mistakes but I am a better manager now than I was two years ago. So it's up to the board if they want to let me go and I move on somewhere else if that's the case".
