Lee Richardson spoke to Spireites World after seeing his side's play off hopes extinguished against Accrington Stanley.
Lee said "It's really disappointing and it feels that we have gone out with a whimper. But I think in fairness in the last five or six games we have given ourselves too much to do by not winning games. Not getting into the play-offs is not really just about today, it's about losing too many games in the first half of the season. So it's a bit like last season coming close but not close enough. "
Moving on to reflect on the game itself Lee added
"Its' disappointing, I thought we started hesitantly in the first half and didn't really give ourselves at chance by conceding five minutes into the second half. We then never really looked like scoring to be honest. I think last week's defeat seems to have knocked the stuffing out of one or two.
Like many others in attendance at the game Lee though Jack Lester's sending off was harsh and continued
"I think the referee thought he had sworn at the linesman. For me though you although can't condone that does happen all the time without punishment. I think he should have had a word with him and perhaps he might have booked him but not a red card.
Finally Lee was asked about his own contractual situation and he responded
"At Saltergate we seem to think we are better than we are when things are going well and worse than wey are when things are going poorly. Credit to our supporters for coming over today but when things started to go against us one or two made their feelings known. I don't think it's fair considering the improvements we have made since December and if anything we have run out of steam and without a couple of key players perhaps we aren't good enough without them."
