LEE: WE ARE ON THE LOOK OUT
On Paul Harsley
We have signed Paul Harsley and he is an experienced midfield player who has been at Port Vale most recently. He's a hard working jack of all trades really and a decent footballer and the type of person who will benefit the football club. He will be an older head who will give 100% every week and I am delighted to have him.
On Derek Niven
I am also pleased that Derek Niven's agreed to sign on for another year. We gave him the option for either a year or two and I was happy he signed either to be honest. Derek will be the first to admit that he's had a patchy season. In part the decision to offer him another contract was in a sense knowing what he can produce. So we are looking forward to Derek getting back to those levels. He is a player that's attracted interest from other clubs on many occasions in the past but last season proved to be a difficult one for him and a bit of a steep learning curve for him. So we are looking forward to him doing much better next season.
On Peter Leven
Currently nothing is happening with Peter. He's rejected what we consider to be an excellent offer. But we certainly haven't shut the door on Peter Leven but he seems to have made his intentions clear and he's hoping that a club at a higher level will come in for him. No doubt some people will be saying we missed out on a hundred thousand pounds for him in January. But that's all too easy in hindsight. At the time we were aiming for promotion, and the club if it had taken the money then would have been criticised for lacking ambition by selling one of its better players at the time.So it was always a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation and it was a difficult decision, but I still think we made the right decision.
On Janos and Picks
Both have been offered contracts in my opinion which meets their market value. Every player has a value and if players are not willing to sign for what we consider to be the market value then we wish them well.
Season Ticket holder Scott Mason has asked "Lots of players have been released in League Two due to financial reasons, do you have your eye on any of them at the moment?"
We are monitoring who's been released at all levels and are continually looking at that. I have no doubt that perhaps players who have been released from other clubs will be joining us because we are looking to strengthen in numerous positions. We are also on the look out for a Steve Fletcher type forward in particular because I think it's an important option to have.
