I would like to take this opportunity of introducing myself, Mark Mullins as a recent recruitment on board the staff here at Saltergate.
I am employed by the club on part time basis as the youth team physiotherapist. This involves looking after the players that train and play at the centre of excellence as well as the youth team. I've been with the club for approximately six months and it has been a fantastic experience, working closely to the likes of Jamie Hewitt, Dave Bentley and Nev Hamilton. I also run a full time practice working from home, which sees me treating a lot of the local amateur and semi-professional footballers.
As regards injuries involving the youth team thankfully there are no long-term problems. A couple of minor injuries were picked up in a recent youth team game against Rotherham, notably Nick Cooke who received a badly bruised foot but managed to continue the full game. With early treatment and a couple of day's rest he should recover quite rapidly.
Being involved with the centre of excellence means treating lads throughout different age groups.
Here I find myself being confronted with a high number of injuries that are down to growth related problems. However most of these types of injury can be overcome by giving the young lads the right advice on how to deal with their particular problem. It's great being able to deal with these up and coming youngsters and hopefully keep them all injury free, so that they may be able to fulfil the potential of one day becoming a crowd favourite here with the Spireites.
Mark.
