Chesterfield defender Aaron Downes is due to see a specialist next week to assess the extent of the latest injury to his right knee which happened in the away game at Port Vale.

Having recently returned after an eight month lay-off recovering from a cruciate ligament operation there are fears he could be in store for another long spell on the sidelines.

The elation of scoring at Vale Park turned on its head when before half-time he had to limp off.

Following this week's scan it will now be down to the consultant to identify how serious the injury is and what the next steps are.

Everyone at the club is hopeful that the news will be encouraging.
