Chesterfield's Jamie Lowry, who was the subject of a dangerous challenge by Brentford's James Wilson in Saturday's one nil league defeat at Saltergate, has luckily escaped serious injury after being stretchered to hospital.
He has sustained severe bruising to his shoulder and arm and required several stitches in a head wound after he was recklessly barged off the pitch into fixed seating within seconds of coming on as a second-half substitute.
Referee Graham Horwood, a policeman from Bedfordshire, almost caused a riot when he booked Wilson for an incident which many fans merited a straight red card.
To add to Chesterfield's woes, Lowry could miss this weekend's away game at Morecambe, along with suspended duo Rob Page and Lloyd Kerry, although an assessment will be made later in the week.
