One young man who's won many admirers since his recruitment by Nicky Law has been 21 year old Jamie Ingledow whose passion for the game and his enthusiasm on the pitch has been obvious to all Spireites supporters.
His never say die approach has been missed in recent weeks due to a groin injury, but the midfielder should be nearing full fitness again very soon.
Born in Barnsley on 23rd August 1980, Jamie joined Rotherham United as a trainee alongside David Artell, Chris Sedgwick and Andy Monkhouse who have gone on to become Millers regulars.
Never afraid to give Youth a chance, Rotherham boss Ronnie Moore selected Jamie, still 15 days short of his 18th birthday, to play at right back for his debut on the opening day of the 1998-99 season.
With Mike Pollitt in goal, Rotherham won 3-1 against Hull City, Vance Warner, Jason White and Lee Glover got the goals, The Tigers goal-getter was a certain David D'Auria.
Jamie's second match was not so good for him, but great for us, a Worthington Cup match which ended Rotherham United 0 Chesterfield 1 (Holland) - Editor's Note: You'll Never Beat The Spireites, but his next League match will be remembered for ever, a 4-1 win at Leyton Orient, a game which featured an Ingledow goal, the third for The Millers.
The inevitable leg two loss at Saltergate followed (2-0, Reeves and Holland), but in Division Three United won games number 3 and four to sit proudly at the top of the table. The next game, a 0-0 home draw with Mansfield, saw Jamie get a knock and he was out of the side until October.
From then on, he was in and out of the side, he scored in a 2-2 home draw with Southend United in February and he ended the season with15 starts and 6 sub appearances as Rotherham made the play offs in 5th place.
He didn't play in either the first leg (0-0 at Orient) or the second (also 0-0), Rotherham lost on penalties to deny them a trip to Wembley.
1999-2000 was a great one for Rotherham United, they stormed to promotion in second place, but despite starting the season in the first game at Lincoln (lost 2-1), the terrier like Ingledow was restricted to only 4 League games that season, though he did play in both Autowindscreen games, v Shrewsbury and Rotherham 1 Chesterfield 4 (Two own goals, Wilkinson, Reeves).
In the summer of 2000, Nicky Law snapped up the 5'7" dynamo on a free , he appeared as a sub on the opening day (4-1 win over York City), he was a regular sub until making his first League start for The Spireites in the 1-1 draw at Lincoln City (Beckett scored) on November 4th.
However his greatest contribution at that point had been on October 21st in injury time at the end of a tense game at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, when after replacing Jonathan Howard, he popped up to score the game's only goal in front of 7,014 fans.
Broke the deadlock after 63 minutes of stalemate to set up the 3-0 win over a stubborn Torquay United side to register his second Spireites goal and joined in the celebrations after CFSS's acquisition of the Club by grabbing the last goal of the season in the 3-0 win over Halifax Town.
Was a regular this season until his groin injury, Jamie's tenacity will always give him an edge over his opponents and with the squad pretty threadbare at present, we look forward to seeing him back in action very soon.
