The Derbyshire St John Ambulance defibrillator - bought by money raised by club referee liaison officer Kevin Bingham - was presented to the club on Saturday.
KEVIN BINGHAM
Kevin, who works at the Derbyshire Times, raised £2,100 running last year's London Marathon.

Kevin said:
"I am passionate about Chesterfield Football Club and have supported them for around 43 years
.

From my work with the club I know that St John Ambulance volunteers are always at every home match.

"So when I saw the appeal for someone to run the marathon for St John it seemed like the ideal opportunity to put the two together."

Kevin - a volunteer worker at Chesterfield FC looking after the referees - decided to take part in the Flora London Marathon to mark his 50th birthday milestone and, instead of the traditional party with presents, asked for sponsorship in lieu of gifts.

Clive Dennis, Commissioner of Operations at CFC, said: "We are extremely grateful to Kevin for this fantastic donation of £2,100.

"These machines really are lifesavers and one of our defibrillators successfully saved the life of Chesterfield football fan, Eric Bates, at the club in November 2001.

"By using the money in this way St John Ambulance would be supporting local football fans in Chesterfield, supporting the club, giving something back to the local community and hopefully helping save more lives."

Eight workers at CFC have been trained to use the defibrillator - six stewards and two members of staff.

The training was provided free-of-charge by St John Ambulance.

When St John Ambulance volunteers are on site they will have primary use of the defibrillator; at all other times the staff and volunteers at CFC will be able to use the heart-start machine.
