Chesterfield Football Club is wasting no time in getting to know the neighbours on Whittington Moor by taking part in the annual Christmas Tree Festival.
The Festival is organised by Whittington Moor Methodist Church and his held in the church each December. This year both the Club and the young supporters have prepared trees that are among the 34 on show.
Local businesses, community groups, schools and Church users have all decorated Christmas trees with the aim of raising money for a number of charities. This year local, national and overseas charities will benefit including the Sheffield Children's Hospital scanner appeal.
The Club tree has place of pride in the entrance of the Church and is a white tree with a supporter's bobble-hat and scarf. Scattered around the tree are vintage shirts and a selection of programmes.
Kay Whiteley, the Church's Worship Leader, said, "I am happy to welcome the football club onto Whittington Moor. We are delighted to see any members of the community come into our Church."
Inside the Church there is also tree decorated by the Young Spireites. This has ornaments made by our young fans including one with Spireite legend Jack Lester as an angel to top the tree.
The trees can be seen from 11am to 6pm daily until Sunday. On Friday there is a concert by Shirland Band while on Saturday lunches are available from midday. The Festival ends with a carol concert at 6pm on Sunday.
