Chesterfield defender Shane Nicholson has re-joined Lincoln City in a deadline day emergency loan for up to six weeks, the club where he first started his professional career as a trainee nearly twenty years ago.

Meanwhile, attempts by the Spireites to bring in a couple of loan signings, a defender and a midfielder, were thwarted when a Premiership club and two Championship clubs decided not to approve the loan signings at this time.

The Chesterfield captain Shane Nicholson was the Spireites 'Player of the Year' in 2004-05 and has made a total of 102 appearances in two spells for Chesterfield.

Chesterfield manager Roy McFarland said: "It is a sign of how well our younger players have progressed that an experienced professional like Shane Nicholson isn't currently able to get into the side.  For that reason I have sanctioned his loan move to Lincoln City where he will get the chance of more regular first team football at this time."

Shane Nicholson said: "I am delighted to get this chance of first team football at the club where I first started my professional career."

The Newark born former Imps trainee, made 158 appearances for Lincoln City from July 1988 before joining Derby County in a £100k move in April 1992. Following his £150k transfer to West Bromwich Albion in February 1996 he then had spells with Chesterfield, Stockport, Sheffield United and Tranmere Rovers before re-joining Chesterfield for a second time in June 2004.

The 36 year old has so far made a grand total of 580 professional appearances during his football career and scored 34 goals.
