Chesterfield has a new club crest, which is being launched to coincide with the club's move to the new b2net stadium next month in what is being called the dawning of a new age.
The new badge retains the heritage of the football club by continuing to incorporate heraldic interlinked lettering set in a shield, which was originally displayed on the player's shirts in 1945.
Although the club badge changed to the more familiar roundel in 1978 it continued to incorporate the interlinked lettering for the majority of years since, and this link with the past is set to continue as is the name of the football club.
The inclusion in the crest of an abstract image of the crooked spire also has historical links with the club's past as records reveal that an embossed image of the spire was first included on the player's shirts as far back as 1901.
More recently, research has shown that Chesterfield fans consider the club's links to the crooked spire as a unique and enduring association which they want retained.
Although the 1866 date, depicting the year the club was established as shown in the current badge, is being dropped, the links to 1866 will continue courtesy the Royal Mail as the new address for the football club from next month will be:-
Chesterfield Football Club
b2net stadium
1866, Sheffield Road
Whittington Moor
Chesterfield
S41 8NZ
Chesterfield chairman Barrie Hubbard said: "The launch of the new club badge not only coincides with our move to the b2net stadium but its design maintains historical links with the club's heritage, as well as, providing a fresh new look that signals the start of an exciting new era."
