Former Oldham Athletic midfielder Danny Whitaker has joined the Spireites on a two year deal, which runs from 1 July 2010 until 30 June 2012.
The 29 year old midfielder was a trainee with Manchester United before joining his home-town club Macclesfield Town in 2001 where he made over 200 appearances before joining Port Vale in June 2006.
After making 98 appearances for the Valiants he moved to Oldham Athletic to join up with Oldham boss John Sheridan, making a further 87 appearances.

As an attacking midfielder he has so far scored a total of 58 goals in his career.
After being released recently by Oldham Athletic, he is Chesterfield manager John Sheridan's second major signing of the close season.
Danny Whitaker said: "I am delighted to be joining up with manager John Sheridan again and am excited about our prospects for next season at our new stadium."
