New approach for disabled fans

Posted on: Fri 16 Apr 2010

Chesterfield FC's disabled supporters will, for the very first time, be able to enjoy comparable facilities to those available for non-disabled persons when the Spireites move to their new £13 million b2net stadium for season 2010-11.

The inadequate facilities that wheelchair disabled supporters have had to endure at Saltergate will soon be a thing of the past.  The Spireites 10,500 all-seater stadium, being developed at Whittington Moor, has been designed to meet all the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and 2005 (DDA).

Being able to enjoy similar facilities to those enjoyed by non-disabled fans will also mean a change in the pricing arrangement for disabled fans.  The club's matchday and season ticket pricing structures for adults, concessions and juniors will now apply equally to both disabled and non-disabled supporters alike.

The club policy is that concessions are applied on an age related basis for senior citizens 65+ and juveniles aged 15 to 18 years.  Junior prices are for the U15's.

This all means that the general concession price, which has previously been applied at Saltergate to all disabled supporters will be officially withdrawn from next season.

As the club has announced a price freeze pledge for the b2net stadium, existing disabled season ticket holders will be able to purchase a season ticket for 2010-11 at last year's concession price.

Starting from the 2011-12 season the disabled policy for the b2net stadium will be fully implemented for these supporters as well.

Where it is established that a disabled person requires personal support to attend a match and access the services provided, the club will allow a personal assistant to be admitted without charge on condition they provide support to the disabled supporter as required.

The club has appointed a new disability liaison officer to deal with all enquiries from disabled supporters.  Her name is Melanie Cooper who can be contacted on 01246 209765 ext 4112 or email melaniecooper@chesterfield-fc.co.uk

IN SUMMARY

Disabled Policy

Chesterfield FC has a disabled policy to ensure the club provides a level of service to disabled supporters, which conforms to disablility discrimination legislation.  It sets out the club's policy on staffing, ticket pricing and match day access.  To ensure the disabled facilities are used by supporters who really need them, Chesterfield FC reserves the right to request proof of a disability, which is receipt of the Higher Rate of Disabled Living Allowance (Mobility or Care component). There are specific areas for wheelchair disabled persons and these are allocated on a first come, first serviced, basis         .

Pricing Policy

The ticket pricing policy, which sets out the pricing structure for all parts of the stadium, applies equally to all categories of disabled supporters and non-disabled supporters (except existing season ticket holders for season 2010-2011). Disabled supporters are charged according to the club's pricing structure and if a personal assistant (PA) is eligible they will not be charged.  The disabled supporter ticket and PA ticket will be classed as one ticket.

Season tickets

Season tickets will be issued to the disabled supporter together, where eligible, with a pass for the personal assistant (PA).  The pass is the property of Chesterfield FC and will only be issued to the disabled person.  It is only valid when the disabled person is present at the entrance to the ground (if the PA attends a game on their own they are required to purchase a match day ticket).

Disability Liaison Officer

The club has appointed a new disability liaison officer to deal with all enquiries from disabled supporters.  Her name is Melanie Cooper who can be contacted on 01246 209765 ext 4112 or email melaniecooper@chesterfield-fc.co.uk
