Chesterfield FC's aspiration for Championship football within the next five years has taken another step forward with the appointment of a new Chief Executive.

It is Carol Wilby, a former director of a local publishing company and, until recently, a member of the senior executive team of Wilfred Edmunds Ltd, part of the Johnstones Newspaper Group which owns the North Derbyshire local paper the Derbyshire Times.

The appointment comes ahead of the club's planned move next July from Saltergate after 139 years to the new b2net stadium, which is currently under construction in the Whittington Moor area of the town.

Carol Wilby has been brought in to help drive a rapidly expanding business with additional income streams planned to come from catering, conferences, banqueting, new retail outlets, as well as new ticketing systems and packages appropriate for a family orientated football club.

Chesterfield chairman Barrie Hubbard said: "Carol will be working alongside myself over the coming months as we press ahead with all our plans to make the move to the b2net stadium as seamless as possible."

Carol Wilby takes up her new post from Monday 4 January 2010.
