Former Spireites midfielder Mark Allott has rejoined Chesterfield on a two year deal until June 2011 after surprisingly being released by Tranmere Rovers following a sudden change of manager. He is Spireites boss John Sheridan's second new signing since taking over the reigns last month.
The 31 year old, who only last month left Oldham Athletic to be signed by Tranmere Rovers former manager Ronnie Moore, was given the chance to move on again after finding out he didn't fully figure in the plans of Tranmere's new manager John Barnes.

A big welcome from player coach Mark Crossley
Manager John Sheridan said: "Mark is a proven experienced midfielder who we all know so well. I am delighted that he has become available and that he immediately wanted to join our promotion push here at Chesterfield."
Mark Allott started his professional career at Oldham as a trainee in August 1995. He joined Chesterfield on a free transfer as a forward in February 2002 but was converted to midfield and ended up as the Spireites captain. In season 2005-06 he was voted Chesterfield's Players' Player of the Year and the Supporters Player of the Year. In a five year spell he made 243 appearances, scoring 14 goals, for the Spireites.

He joined up with manager John Sheridan at Oldham in 2007 and was an immediate hit as was named Player of the Season for 2007-08, won the Goal of the Season in 2008-09 and captained the side. He made 100 appearances, scoring seven goals before joining Tranmere Rovers last month.
