The Spireites have moved quickly to capture Wigan Athletic central midfielder Lewis Montrose who has been on loan for the last three months.
The 20 year old, who has made two appearances for the Premiership side, has signed a pre-contract agreement to sign a two year deal with Chesterfield when he becomes a free agent during the close season.
Lewis Montrose said: "I am delighted to be joining Chesterfield on a long-term basis as I have really enjoyed being with the club on loan and everyone has made me so welcome."
He added: "I am looking forward to progressing my career with the Spireites and want to play my part in seeing us get promoted next season."
The midfielder is back in training following a knee injury and is expected to be included in the squad for the Spireites last home game of the seasons against Bradford City this Saturday 2 May 2009, kick-off 3.00pm.
Meanwhile, two of the Spireites successful youth team, which has just won the Puma Youth Alliance North East League, have been offered professional contracts.
They are striker Jordan Bowery and goalkeeper Matt Malak.
