The Spireites have signed former Carlisle United, Blackpool, Hibernian and Newcastle United goalkeeper Tony Caig on a short term deal, subject to receiving international clearance from the USA.

The 34 year old has most recently been stateside with Major League Soccer side Houston Dynamo and United Soccer League side Vancouver Whitecaps. 

He has joined the Spireites to provide experienced backup for Chesterfield's current No 1 'keeper Tommy Lee.

Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson said: "Tony has a wealth of goalkeeping experience and is happy to come in for a short spell to support Tommy Lee and provide emergency cover should it be needed."

The paperwork is expected to be completed this week.
