Spireites make deadline day signing

Posted on: Tue 03 Feb 2009

Chesterfield beat the transfer deadline with the last minute signing of Manchester City defender Clayton McDonald, initially on a one month emergency loan deal.

The club has received confirmation from The Football League that the transfer of the 20 year old central defender was completed with a minute to spare before yesterday's 5.00pm deadline.

This means that Manchester City's 6' 6'' reserve team captain can go straight into the Spireites squad for this weekend's home league game against Lincoln City.

It's a timely signing with the news that, following the postponement of tonight's game at Aldershot Town, central defender Danny Hall will now miss Saturday's game against Lincoln City through suspension after his sending-off at Notts County last weekend.

Meanwhile, attempts by the Spireites to bring in a goalkeeper and a central midfielder during the transfer window stalled after discussions with two clubs failed to reach agreement.

Chesterfield will now look towards the emergency loan facility to pursue their targets.
