Experienced midfielder Darren Currie is set to join Chesterfield from Luton Town after his release by the Hatters.

He has agreed a three year deal with the Spireites and all the paperwork is expected to be finalised in the next few days when cleared by the Luton administrator.

The highly-rated 33 year old is a former West Ham trainee who hit the headlines with Wycombe Wanderers before moving to Championship side Ipswich Town for £250,000 in 2004 following a short spell with Brighton & Hove Albion.

 

After loan spells at Coventry City and Derby County he joined Luton Town in July 2007 and is being released from his contract by the Bedfordshire club.

 

Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson said: "I am delighted that Darren has agreed to join us."

 

Vastly experienced Darren Currie has made a total of 679 appearances for eleven clubs in his career so far, scoring 82 goals.
